Talon's Edge is the UFN's lead strike carrier, home to Frontier Operations Command's combined fighter and bomber wings, flown under the command of Commodore Smith-Patel ("Smarty"), Chief Flight Commander of Frontier Operations Command. Where the Meridian Crown projects the authority of Fleet Command, Talon's Edge projects its reach — she operates furthest from core Federation territory of any capital hull in service.
Built around a flush flight deck and triple-redundant launch catapults, she can scramble a full strike wing in under four minutes, a benchmark no other carrier in the fleet has matched. Flight Operations runs a continuous training rotation aboard her, and qualification aboard Talon's Edge is considered the gold standard for fleet pilots — a posting pilots request rather than one they're assigned.
Service History
Her service record includes the relief of the Outer Karrow colonies and three successful first-contact escort taskings, missions that call for exactly the combination of speed and restraint her strike wings are trained to. First-contact escort in particular is considered a specialist skill within Frontier Operations Command: a wing has to be ready to fight and disciplined enough not to, sometimes in the same sortie, and Talon's Edge is where that discipline gets taught.
Reputation
Frontier Operations Command treats a berth aboard Talon's Edge as proof of arrival rather than a starting post — pilots earn their way onto her flight deck, they don't get assigned there straight from training. Under Smith-Patel's command, the wing has built a reputation for tight formation discipline balanced against a willingness to improvise when the mission calls for it, a combination the Commodore is known to demand personally at every debrief.
