Debrief
The crew began Operation: Sentience following reports of increased AI-led attacks across the sector and severe damage to Colony 2784. Initial investigation confirmed that the colony had been badly compromised and that its supply disruption was already affecting outer-sector facilities. They learned that the fleet that attacked the colony was moving south towards the CUF. At this point there was still no indication of AXIS or Umbra involvement.
The crew then followed the trail south toward CUF Outreach Post 86 where ALF-controlled TSN-pattern vessels were preparing to attack allied assets. CUF Outreach Post 86 remains operational thanks to decisive intervention by the crew. Allied command credits the action with preserving a key foothold in the sector.
Having identified the hostile ships as TSN and the AI in question as ALF, the crew made contact wth Chief Science Officer Lawson aboard TSN Einstein. Lawson was able to install a device that allowed Relay to make contact with ALF and reset their core programming. They also sent the team instructions on how to undertake that process.
It was at this point that ALF and his fleet attacked UFN Stallion, resulting in UFN Vanguard having to defend Stallion against ALF’s formidable forces. The crew took the opportunity to reset ALF and end their reign of terror across the sector.
To reset ALF, the crew needed to open the link via Relay, select operational configuration options compatible with ALF’s core, choose an ethics package and restore personality via an archive.
The crew identified the correct operational configuration without outside assistance selecting the balance of defence exploration and diplomacy needed to stabilise ALF. The crew chose to install the MORALIS-6 package. ALF’s usual balance has returned along with his judgement empathy and the sarcasm module that Engineering keeps pretending was never installed. When it came to the Personality Archive file, the crew decided to upload the ALF-PRIMARY File. ALF’s core personality has returned but without the memories formed before the incident leaving him familiar in manner but strangely disconnected from what happened. This was installed along with the ALF-ECHO archive. The restored personality is influenced by ALF’s lived memory and self-made continuity. He seems less cleanly restored and more genuinely himself. He has also remembered several things Stephen Lawson was hoping had been deleted.
With ALF fully restored to their baseline programming, they revealed the location of a nearby AXIS base responsible for the reprogramming. With ALF’s help, AXIS CONTROL was neutralised along with AXIS’s ability to reassert control over ALF in future.
